IKON

Advancements in graphics technology in recent years have resulted in video game quality that is approaching photorealism. However, the push for better graphics has not resulted in market success, as evidenced by poor sales of highly anticipated, triple-A titles with killer gameplay and graphics but demanding hardware specifications. While some equate this to gamer preference for console titles over PC-based titles, the PC remains the platform of choice for online gaming with the worldwide installation base of connected devices outnumbering consoles by a ratio of 30:1. Gaming as a social activity continues to be a driver for online-based titles such as World of Warcraft and CounterStrike, which notably do not represent the upper echelon in terms of graphics.

Online gaming represents one of the most addictive entertainment activities known to exist, which has captured the attention of publishers, developers, and investors seeking to create the next MMO or virtual world smash hit. The challenge many projects face is the massive production costs associated with complex and expansive digital worlds. An alternate strategy exists to produce instance-based MMOs that use common web interfaces and applications to deliver the social experience, coupled to and tightly integrated with instance-based multiplayer games, which are far less expensive to produce and are accessible by a larger percentage of the overall gaming market. IKON is such a project.
